Dr. Brett Bartruff, DSW, LCSW. (he/him), is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who brings a broad range of experience related to the field of behavioral health and substance use.  Before coming to Sacred Circle Healthcare, Dr. Bartruff worked in the local county public mental health system. His practice specialties include the treatment of trauma, the intersection of substance use and mental health conditions, mood disorders, affirmative LGBTQIA therapy, as well as assessment of emergent prodromal and first-episode psychosis. Dr. Bartruff takes a holistic approach to wellness, addressing the bio-psycho-spiritual-social development of each unique individual. Brett’s therapeutic theoretical orientation incorporates aspects of cognitive theory, psychodynamic principles, adaptive processing theory, and motivational interviewing.

Brett earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Weber State University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and was award outstanding graduate for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. He attended the University of Utah to complete a Master of Social Work degree. Dr. Bartruff earned a Doctor of Social Work degree in Clinical Social Work Practice from the University of Pennsylvania. His dissertation examined the correlation between services provided by a certified peer support worker and patients’ length of time in and likelihood of successful completion of substance use treatment.

Dr. Bartruff is a member of the LGBTQ Affirmative Therapy Guild of Utah, the National Association of Social Workers, and an associate member of the American Psychological Association. In his free time, Brett enjoys all things Sci-fi, collecting X-Men comic books, road biking, reading, music, and off-roading in his UTV. He also enjoys RV camping, watching movies, and traveling.
