Joe Makouske (he/him) is an Associate Mental Health Counselor. He graduated from Westminster University with an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. He has clinical experience in outpatient, inpatient, and wilderness settings.

As a Marine Corps veteran, he has a special passion for serving the veteran community. He believes that group therapy is an especially potent form of treatment for this population as it can reflect the camaraderie experienced in the military in a more open, vulnerable context. He specializes in treating trauma and other mental health issues through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and an existential lens.

Another area of clinical interest is treating children. He believes that early intervention can be life-changing as wounds in childhood can grow into significant issues over time. He approaches this treatment through play therapy and equipping parents with skills to nurture healthy development.

In his free time, Joe enjoys exploring the outdoors through rock climbing and backpacking. Traveling abroad and experiencing new cultures allows him to feel more connected to the collective and himself.
