Ryan Butler received his Master of Social Work Degree and Advanced Substance Use Disorder Certificate from the University of Utah. Ryan has 10 years of social work-related experience, and his background is diverse. Ryan has a history of working with adolescents, adults, families, and individuals struggling with mental health and substance use disorders.

Ryan’s interest in social work began when he took a position as a behavioral technician at Youth Health Associates working with incarcerated teens struggling within the justice system. Ryan fell in love with social work by helping adolescents overcome life’s challenges and assisting them to look at the world through a new lens. Ryan also spent 8 years working for Hopeful Beginnings. During his time at Hopeful Beginnings, he worked as a respite worker teaching life skills to adolescents. He also did casework, family skills work, and worked as a therapist for Hopeful. Ryan also spent 5 years at Salt Lake Metro Jail as a volunteer facilitating substance use classes. Ryan’s treatment philosophy focuses on the individual, he uses a solution-focused person-centered approach to therapy. He understands the client is the expert in their own experience and he is there as an assistant to help navigate the obstacles life throws in their direction.

Ryan has a passion for social work but in his spare time he and his partner love to snowboard, mountain bike, scuba dive, and travel.
